Big Sydney bream

Got this sucker on white bread the other day... good fun on light gear! Easy kilo plus'er
Big old fish
Let it swim off free.....

Dave does New Zealand BRU

The trip I and 7 others had been frothing over for months had finally dawned. We were heading over to Tairua to jig up some bug kungies bru!

Noel bent on a 20+ kungy

The fishing was difficult but still, some nice fish were boated.
30 lb of dirty Kiwi
A nicey on the livebait
My best was a 40lb kingy on the jig gear, the trip best was about 50lb.
Hooked up to a train
Choice kingy bru.....
There was some interesting sealife out there...

Bad day to go kayakking
Porbeagle/Mako/whatever
Interesting deep water fish
Slender tuna.....
Will have to go over again and get some bigger pigs, one day.

Tuna season 2011 goes off with a BANG

This year, being my first tuna season seemed to be pretty uniform with what I've read regarding tuna fishing; of the 7 or so times we shot out to sea, I saw 0 yellowfin boated and all I caught myself were small albacore.

Not much of a result, but I had a good idea since the start what tuna fishing would be like.

There were however the random golden moments between hours and hours of dropping jigs down, cubing and trolling (sleeping).

My mate Ben got his first Marlin, in the middle of winter.....

The business end

Nice 200lb stripe marlin. Not a blue but it still jumps and has a stick on its face!!!

Just when I had gotten complacent with doughnut sessions.. Out came the 100kilo Bluefin tuna!
We were cubing near a break out Heatons way when it hotted up all of a sudden.
Result - one big Thunny busted off, and one TLD-breaking beast of a blue fin tuna receiving a few gaffs to the face and being dragged aboard.
Hooked up on 24

Snap

The holy grail; Ed's 220lb bluefin tuna out of Sydney
So for now it's time to recover financially and prepare for next year's attempts.

Things I've learnt I can improve on for next year:
-More line capacity, go slightly heavier.
-Focus around certain moon periods ;)
-No bananas on board

Lazy blogger

Apologies, I'm truly lazy with my blog updates as it's hard to do from a mobile.

There have been some good fish... watch this space

The tuna tune

Marinco hooked up

Marinco using an Ocean Revolution rod. Nice.

Recently I've had the opportunity to jig/cube/troll for tuna, and the bug is beginning to hit me.
We first went out with Ambition Charters two weeks ago, 'fin the target of course. The yellow fuckers didn't play ball, however we managed some nice albi on jig and cube. I got the fish of the trip at about 25 lb however this was on a pilchard cube. I popped a similar size jigged one off unfortunately, which pushed the one taken on bait into insignificance. Oh well, I had tasted the entree and I want the main course!

The following week, onboard Ambition again, mates Tim and Simon caught a 51 and 58 kg yellowfin respectively. I had a feeling our session (the following day) would be a dud - just my spidey sense, but who am I to turn down a chance to get smelly fingers; off we punched through rough seas in search of tuuuuuuuuuuuna.

As with gambling, the spidey sense often knows what's going down. We slogged it out for a long day of rain and swells for an absolute doughnut - not taking into account the blue-shark!. Many would be disappointed at the results of that day but no, not me. We gave it 100% and I will be back for more!

Many thanks to Ivan and James for the opportunity - see you soon.

Three kings and JM PE reel - nice combo Simon

My first tuna - onwards and upwards eh

Tim onto a huge Tiger Shark

That's a Hots One Pitch Slider loaded on over 10 kilo of drag. Good on Tim for holding on!!

My BBQ has never been happier

Sunday got much sloppier

All three of us hooked up to a bluey

Recent fishing off the rocks

Over Easter, we put in some solid hours fishing some rocks down the south coast near Ulladulla.
It was a lot of fun taking on Drummer on bream gear; I can't wait to do it again.
Here are some happy snaps.
Great action on those Okuma Trinus rods

Yo

Recent crap... I mean 'carp'

Since moving the the Hills District I've longed to wet a line. whetting my appetite for a fish have been the local carp population - all within walking distance!
The biggest has been about 6 kilos. Most were taken on bread however I did have success with surface lures one day.
Here are some pictures:

A lotta fun on the silly string

Painfully long fights on fly gear - it just puts so much pressure on the wrist also
